For more than 50 years, Dorchester Academy has made a positive impact on hundreds of students by encouraging them and inspiring them to be the best they can be.

01. Safety

Dorchester Academy is committed to providing an excellent education is a SAFE environment. We comply with all local, state, and federal laws and codes concerning school safety and have locked doors and cameras in place to minimize any risk to our students and staff. In addition, we have several effective means of communication to keep parents informed about happenings at our school.

02. Education

Dorchester Academy is a school that seeks to educate the whole student. We strive to offer a wide variety of athletic, club, and arts opportunities to teach students about good sportsmanship, leadership skills, and artistic skills and appreciation. However, our primary goal is to provide students with an excellent education that will serve as the foundation for their future successes. This is the driving force behind the decisions we make for our school and its students.

03. Experience

The Dorchester Academy experience is unique. We offer a one-of-a-kind program for students in K3 through 12th grade. Our entire school comes together almost weekly to share in lessons of religious faith, community service, and school spirit. Our upper school students serve as mentors and role models for our younger students. We are truly a school that functions like a family: we laugh together, cry together, pray together, celebrate together, and LEARN together.

04. Community

Dorchester Academy serves students from St. George, Holly Hill, Harleyville, Bowman, Ridgeville, and surrounding areas. We are a community school in that we welcome the involvement of our local churches, businesses, civic organizations, and community leaders.

With a primary concern for excellence in education under a Christian ideology, Dorchester Academy, Inc. was founded in 1966. Many concerned individuals worked diligently to promote this comprehensive educational alternative. The first Board of Directors was comprised of Dr. F. L. Shuler, President; Hugh Parler, Jr., Vice-President; Patricia H. Walters, Secretary; D.M. Rogers, Director; and Dr. J. Gavin Appleby, Director.

Our facility consists of 30 classrooms, a media center, a large cafeteria, 3 computer labs, 2 mobile computer labs, an iPad lab, a gymnasium, an art room, a dance room, a conference room as well as superior outdoor athletic facilities. All of our teachers have SMARTBoards and multiple digital devices in their classrooms to provide the best in digital instruction.
